CEPHISODOTUS , the name of the See also:father and of the son of See also:Praxiteles, both sculptors like himself. The former must have flourished about 400 B.C. A noted See also:work of his was See also:Peace bearing the See also:infant See also:Wealth, of which a copy exists at See also:Munich. Peace is a Madonna-like figure of a somewhat conservative type; the See also:child Wealth is less successful. Cephisodotus also made, like his son, a figure of See also:Hermes carrying the child See also:Dionysus, unless indeed See also:ancient critics have made two See also:works of one. He made certain statues for the See also:city of See also:Megalopolis, founded in 370 B.C. Of the work of the younger Cephisodotus, his See also:grandson, we have no remains; he was a prolific sculptor of the latter See also:part of the 4th See also:century B.C., especially noted for portraits, of See also:Menander, of the orator See also:Lycurgus, and others (see J.
