CHARRUA , a tribe of See also:

South See also:American See also:Indians, See also:wild and warlike, formerly ranging over See also:Uruguay and See also:part of S. See also:Brazil. They were dark and heavily built, fought on horses and used the See also:bolas or weighted See also:lasso. They were always at See also:war with the Spaniards, and Juan See also:Diaz de See also:Solis was killed by them in 1516. As a tribe they are now almost See also:extinct, but the See also:modern Gauchos of Uruguay have much Charrua See also:blood in them.
