COUNTERSIGN , a military See also:

term for a sign, word or See also:signal previously arranged and required to be given by persons approaching a sentry, guard or other See also:post. In some armies the " See also:counter-sign " is strictly the reply of the sentry to the pass-word given by the See also:person approaching.
