EREBUS , in See also:

Greek See also:mythology, son (according to See also:Hesiod, Theog. 123) of See also:Chaos, and See also:father of See also:Aether (upper See also:air) and Hemera (See also:day) by his See also:sister Nyx (See also:night). The word, which signifies darkness, is in See also:Homer the gloomy subterranean region through which the departed shades pass into Hades. The entrance to it was in the extreme See also:west, on the See also:borders of Ocean, in the mythical See also:land of the Cimmerians. It is to be distinguished from See also:Tartarus, the See also:place of See also:punishment for the wicked.
