EUPHRONIUS , the most noted of the See also:

group of See also:great See also:vase-painters, who lived in See also:Athens in the See also:time of the See also:Persian See also:wars, and worked upon red-figured vases (see See also:GREEK See also:ART and See also:CERAMICS). There is a monograph by W. See also:Klein dealing with the artist. As all the great paintings of See also:Greece have disappeared, we are obliged to See also:trust to the designs on vases for our knowledge of Greek See also:drawing and See also:composition. Euphronius is stiff and archaic in See also:style, but his subjects are varied, his groupings See also:original and striking, and his mastery of the See also:line decided. In their way, the vases which he painted will hold their own in comparison with those of any nation; for simplicity, truthfulness and See also:charm they can scarcely be matched.
