HORGEN , a small See also:town in the Swiss See also:canton of See also:Zurich, situated on the See also:left or See also:west See also:shore of the See also:Lake of Zurich, and by See also:rail Doi m. S.E. of the town of Zurich. Pop. (1900) 6883, mostly See also:German-speaking and Protestants. It possesses many See also:industrial establishments of various kinds, and is a centre of the Zurich See also:silk manufacture. It came in 1406 into the See also:possession of Zurich, with which it communicates by means of steamers on the lake, as well as by rail.
