term for the sunk See also:part of the See also:floor in the See also:atrium of a See also:Greek or See also:Roman See also:house, which was contrived to receive the See also:water passing through the See also:compluvium (q.v.) of the roof. The impluvium was generally in See also:marble and sunk about a See also:foot below the floor of the atrium.
