town of Portuguese See also:West See also:Africa, See also:capital of the See also:district of Mossamedes, on the See also:south See also:side of Little See also:Fish See also:Bay (Bay of Mossamedes or See also:Angra do See also:Negro). Pop. about 5000. The See also:harbour affords excellent anchorage. A railway (over See also:loo m. See also:long) starts from the harbour and crosses the semi-See also:desert See also:coast region to the fertile Chella See also:plateau. Mossamedes is the headquarters of an important fishing See also:industry (see La Geographic, See also:March 1908).
