MYAUNGMYA , a See also:district in the See also:Irrawaddy See also:division of See also:lower See also:Burma, formed in 1803 out of a portion of See also:Bassein district, and reconstituted in 1903. It has an See also:area of 2663 sq. m., and a See also:population (1901) of 278,119, showing an increase of 49% in the See also:decade and a See also:density of 104 inhabitants to the square mile. Among the population were about 12,800 Christians, mostly Karens. The district is a deltaic See also:tract, bordering See also:south on the { See also:sea and traversed by many tidal creeks. See also:Rice cultivation and fishing occupy practically all the inhabitants of the district. The See also:town of Myaungmya had 4711 inhabitants in 1901.
