NECROPOLIS , a See also:

cemetery (q.v.) or burying-See also:place, literally a " See also:city of the dead " (Gr. vEKpos, See also:corpse, and coats, city). Apart from the occasional application of the word to See also:modern cemeteries outside large towns, the See also:term is chiefly used of See also:burial-grounds near. the sites of the centres of See also:ancient civilizations.
