The See also:French picaillon, from which the word was adapted in See also:America, was an old See also:copper See also:coin of See also:Piedmont. Its origin is doubtful, but is possibly related to the See also:Italian See also:piccolo, little, small. In America the word is used of anything trifling, See also:petty, mean or contemptible.
