PLUSH (Fr. peluche) , a textile fabric having a cut See also:nap or See also:pile the same as See also:fustian or See also:velvet. Originally the pile of plush consisted of See also:mohair or worsted See also:yarn, but now See also:silk by itself or with a See also:cotton backing is used for plush, the distinction from velvet being found in the longer and less dense pile of plush. The material is largely used for upholstery and See also:furniture purposes, and is also much employed in See also:dress and millinery.
