SAMPAN , the name of the typical See also:

light See also:boat of far Eastern See also:rivers and coastal See also:waters; it is usually propelled by a single See also:scull over the stern, and the centre and after See also:part is covered by an awning or See also:screen of See also:matting. The word is said to be See also:Chinese, See also:san, thin, and See also:pan, See also:board. Others take it to be of See also:Malay origin.
