SILVERFISH , a small active See also:insect, so-called from the silvery glitter of the scales covering the See also:body. It is less than See also:half an See also:inch See also:long and is found in See also:damp corners or amongst books and papers in houses. Although accredited with destroying See also:paper and See also:linen, it probably feeds only on farinaceous or saccharine substances. Scientifically it is known as Lepisma saccharina and belongs to the sub-See also:order See also:Thysanura of the order See also:Aptera.
