SURGE , in See also:

meteorology, an irregular fluctuation of the See also:barometer, extending over a See also:long See also:period (e.g. a See also:month), in contradistinction to the shorter fluctuations, covering two or three days, caused by alternating conditions of high and See also:low pressure. The cause of surges is not understood.
