Returning to New York, he became a member of the Society of American Artists in 1878 and of the See also:National See also:Academy of ,See also:Design in 189o. His pictures of New See also:England types, and illustrations of See also:Keats, broughthim into prominence. Subsequently he turned his See also:attention to decoration, and executed panels and medallions for the Waldorf-See also:Astoria Hotel, New York, a See also:panel for the See also:Essex See also:County See also:Court See also:House, See also:Newark, New See also:Jersey, panels for private residences and stained-See also:glass windows for various churches, including St See also:Paul's Methodist Episcopal See also:Church, Newark, N.J. He was an instructor in the See also:schools of See also:Cooper See also:Union, New York, in 1882-1885, and in the school of the National Academy of Design in 1889-1892. Mr Low, who is known to a wider circle as the friend of R. L. See also:Stevenson, published some reminiscences, A See also:Chronicle of Friendships, 1873-1900 (1908). In 1909 he married See also:Mary (Fairchild), formerly the wife of the sculptor See also:MacMonnies.
