SWEETBREAD , a popular See also:

term for certain glands of animals, particularly when used as articles of See also:food; these are usually the See also:pancreas, the " See also:stomach-sweetbread " of butchers, and the thymus, or " See also:breast sweetbread." The term is also sometimes used to include the salivary and lymphatic glands (see DucTLESS GLANDS, PANCREAS and LYMPHATIC See also:SYSTEM).
