- 1759, from Latin iuvenescentem (nominative iuvenescens), present participle of iuvenescere "to grow into youth, grow young again, regain youth," from iuvenis "young" (see young (adj.)). Use in a sense of "immature, undeveloped" is etymologically incorrect.
