ALMSHOUSE , a See also:

house built and endowed by private charity for the See also:residence of poor and usually aged See also:people. The greater portion were built after the See also:Reformation. Two interesting examples are the See also:Hospital of St See also:Cross, near See also:Winchester, founded in 1136, and Coningsby Hospital at See also:Hereford, founded in 1614.
