AQUAMARINE (See also:Lat. aqua marina, " See also:water of the See also:sea ") , a transparent variety of See also:beryl (q.v.), having a delicate See also:blue or bluish-See also:green See also:colour, suggestive of the tint of sea-water. It occurs at most localities which yield See also:ordinary beryl, some of the finest coming from See also:Russia. The See also:gem-gravels of See also:Ceylon contain aquamarine. Clear yellow beryl, such as occurs in See also:Brazil, is sometimes called aquamarine See also:chrysolite. When See also:corundum presents the bluish tint of typical aquamarine, it is often termed See also:Oriental aquamarine.
