AVEZZANO , a See also:

town of the Abruzzi, See also:Italy, in the See also:province of See also:Aquila, 67 m. E. of See also:Rome by See also:rail and 38 m. S. of Aquila by road. Pop. (1901) 9442. It has a See also:fine and well-preserved See also:castle, built in 1490 by See also:Gentile Virginio See also:Orsini; it is square, with See also:round towers at the angles. Avezzano is on the See also:main See also:line from Rome to Castellammare Adriatico; a See also:branch railway diverges to Roccasecca, on the line from See also:Naples to Rome. The Lago See also:Fucino lies 11 m. to the See also:east.
