BAOBAB , Adansonia digitata(natural See also:

order Bombaceae) ,anative of tropical See also:Africa, one of the largest trees known, its See also:stem reaching 30 ft. in See also:diameter, though the height is not See also:great. It has a large woody See also:fruit, containing a mucilaginous pulp, with a pleasant cool See also:taste, in which the seeds are buried. The bark yields a strong fibre which is made into See also:ropes and See also:woven into See also:cloth. The See also:wood is very See also:light and soft, and the trunks of living trees are often excavated to See also:form houses. The name of the genus was given by See also:Linnaeus in See also:honour of See also:Michel See also:Adanson, a celebrated See also:French botanist and traveller.
