BEND . (I) (From Old Eng. bendan), a bending or curvature, as in " the bend of a See also:

river," or technically the ribs or " See also:wales " of a See also:ship. (2) (From Old Eng. bindan, to bind), a nautical See also:term for a See also:knot, the " See also:cable bend," the " fisherman's bend." (3) (From the Old Fr. bende, a ribbon), a term of See also:heraldry, signifying a See also:diagonal See also:band or stripe across a See also:shield from the See also:dexter See also:chief to the sinister See also:base; also in tanning, the See also:half of a hide from which the thinner parts have been trimmed away, " bend-See also:leather " being the thickest and best See also:sole-leather.
