BOLKHOV , a See also:

town of See also:Russia, in the See also:government of See also:Orel, and 35 M. N. of the See also:city of Orel. Pop. (1897) 20,703. It is prettily situated amongst orchards and possesses a See also:cathedral. There is a lively See also:trade in See also:hemp, hemp-See also:seed oil, hemp goods and See also:cattle, and there are hemp-See also:mills, See also:soap-See also:works and tanneries. The much-venerated monastery, Optina Pustyn, is See also:close by.
