CHACONNE (Span. chacona) , a slow See also:dance, introduced into See also:Spain by the See also:Moors, now obsolete. It resembles the See also:Passacaglia. The word is used also of the See also:music composed for this dance—a slow stately See also:movement in See also:time. Such a movement was often introduced into a See also:sonata, and formed the conventional See also:finale to an See also:opera or See also:ballet until the time of See also:Gluck.
