COLZA OIL , a non-drying oil obtained from the seeds of Brassica campestris, See also:

var. oleifera, a variety of the plant which produces See also:Swedish turnips. Colza is extensively cultivated in See also:France, See also:Belgium, See also:Holland and See also:Germany; and, especially in the first-named See also:country, the expression of the oil is an important See also:industry. In See also:commerce colza is classed with See also:rape oil, to which both in source and properties it is very closely allied. It is a comparatively inodorous oil of a yellow See also:colour, having a specific gravity varying from 0.912 to 0.920. The cake See also:left after expression of the oil is a valuable feeding substance for See also:cattle. Colza oil is extensively used as a lubricant for machinery, and for burning in lamps.
