CULMINATION (from See also:Lat. culmen, See also:summit) , the attainment of the highest point. In See also:astronomy the See also:term is given to the passage of a heavenly See also:body over the See also:meridian of a See also:place. Two culminations take place in the course of the See also:day, one above and the other below the See also:pole. The. first is called the upper, the second the See also:lower. Either or both may occur below the See also:horizon and therefore be invisible.
