ELECTRUM, See also:ELECTRON (Gr. ijXei rpov, See also:amber) , an alloy of See also:gold and See also:silver in use among the ancients, described by See also:Pliny as containing one See also:part of silver to four of gold. The See also:term is also applied in See also:mineralogy to native argentiferous gold containing from 20 to 50% of silver. In both cases the name is derived from the See also:pale yellow See also:colour of electrum, resembling that of amber.
