ESCUINTLA , the See also:

capital of the See also:department of Escuintla, See also:Guatemala; on the See also:southern slope of the Sierra Madre, 45 M. S.W. of Guatemala See also:city. Pop. (1905) about 12, 000. Escuintla is locally celebrated for its hot See also:mineral springs. It is the commercial centre of a fertile See also:district, which produces See also:coffee, See also:cane-See also:sugar and See also:cocoa; it has also a brisk transit See also:trade in most of the products or vuatemala, owing to its position on the interoceanic railway between Puerto Barrios on the See also:Atlantic and See also:San Jose (30 M. S.) on the Pacific. A See also:branch railway which goes westward to San Augustin meets this See also:line at Escuintla.
