GERMISTON , a See also:

town of the See also:Transvaal, 9 M. E. of Johannes-See also:burg. Pop. of the See also:municipality (1904) 29,477, of whom 9123 were whites. It lies 5478 ft. above the See also:sea, in the See also:heart of the Witwatersrand See also:gold-See also:mining See also:district, and is an important railway junction. The station, formerly called Elandsfontein Junction, is the See also:meeting-point of lines from the ports of the Cape and See also:Natal, and from See also:Johannesburg, See also:Pretoria and Delagoa See also:Bay. Though possessing a See also:separate municipality, Germiston is practically a suburb of Johannesburg (q.v.).
