HELIOTROPE , in See also:

mineralogy, is the See also:mineral commonly called " See also:bloodstone " (q.v.), and sometimes termed girasol-a name applied also to See also:fire-See also:opal. The name, like those of many See also:ancient names of minerals, seems to have had a fanciful origin. According to See also:Pliny the See also:stone was so called because when thrown into the See also:water it turned the See also:sun's See also:light falling upon it into a reflection like that of See also:blood.
