HIPPED ROOF , the name given in See also:

architecture to a roof which slopes down on all four sides instead of terminating on two sides against a See also:vertical gable. Sometimes a See also:compromise is made between the two, See also:half the roof being hipped and half resting on the vertical See also:wall; this gives much more See also:room inside the roof, and externally a most picturesque effect, which is one of the See also:great attractions of domestic architecture in the See also:south of See also:England, and is rarely found in other countries.
