KONARAK or KANARAK, a ruined See also:temple in See also:India, in the See also:Puri See also:district of See also:Orissa, which has been described as for its See also:size " the most richly ornamented See also:building—externally at least—in the whole See also:world." It was erected in the See also:middle of the 13th See also:century, and was dedicated to the See also:sun-See also:god. It consisted of a See also:tower, probably once over 18o ft. high, with a See also:porch in front 140 ft. high, sculptured with figures of lions, elephants, horses, &c.
