MALMSEY , a strong sweet See also:

wine, originally made at Monemvasia (Gr. Moveµ3avia), Napoli di See also:Malvasia, in the Morea, See also:Greece. The name of the See also:place was corrupted in Med. See also:Lat. into malmasia, whence the See also:English See also:form of the word. The corruption malvasia gives the O. Fr. malvesie, from which comes the alternative English form " malvoisie." The wine is now made not only in Greece but also in See also:Spain, See also:Madeira and the See also:Azores.
