NOISOME , harmful, offensive, especially of that which causes See also:

physical disgust. The word is formed from the obsolete " See also:noy," trouble, a shortened See also:form of " See also:annoy," now only used as a verb, to cause trouble, the usual substantive being " annoyance." The O. Fr. anoi, anui (See also:modern ennui) is an See also:adaptation of See also:Lat. in odio esse, venire or habere, to be sick, tired of anything (odium, disgust, hatred). The word has no connexion with Lat. nocere, to hurt.
