PIVOT (Fr. pivot; probably connected with Ital. pivolo, peg, See also:pin, diminutive of piva, pipa, See also:pipe) , that on which something turns, specifically a See also:metal pointed pin or See also:short See also:shaft in machinery, such as the end of an See also:axle or spindle.
