POULTICE , a See also:

mass of See also:linseed-See also:meal, See also:bread or other substance, sometimes of medicinal herbs, mixed with boiling See also:water and enclosed in See also:muslin or See also:linen and applied to the skin to reduce inflammation, to induce warmth, or when mixed with See also:mustard, &c., as a See also:counter-irritant. The word seems to have been taken from the plural pultes of the See also:Lat. puls, pottage, See also:pulse, Gr. See also:ware's.
