SALARY , a See also:payment for services rendered, usually a stipulated sum paid monthly, quarterly, See also:half-yearly or yearly, and for a permanent or lengthy See also:term of employment. It is generally contrasted with " See also:wages," a term applied to weekly or daily payment for See also:manual services. As laid down by See also:Bowen, L. J., In re Shine (1892)) 1 Q.B. 529, " Salary means a definite payment for See also:personal services under some See also:contract and computed by See also:time." The Latin salarium meant originally See also:salt See also:money (See also:Lat. sal, salt), i.e. the sum paid to soldiers for salt.
