In 1903, after the See also:census' had been taken, San Ildefonso (pop. 5326) was annexed to San Miguel. It has a cool and very healthy See also:climate, and commands a beautiful view of the surrounding See also:country. The See also:soil is very fertile, and many of the inhabitants have acquired much See also:wealth from the cultivation of See also:rice. See also:Sugar-See also:cane, See also:Indian See also:corn and See also:cotton are also produced in abundance, and See also:cattle are raised. Near the town are See also:iron mines and quarries of See also:limestone, and on the neighbouring mountains are forests containing valuable hardwood See also:timber. About 8 m. N.E. are the medicinal springs of Sibul, to which large See also:numbers of patients from the neighbouring provinces come. The San Miguel See also:river, which flows near, affords a means of transportation, and the town has considerable See also:commerce. Some beautiful See also:furniture is made out of the hardwood from the mountains, and cotton fabrics are See also:woven in considerable quantities by the See also:women. The See also:principal See also:language is Tagalog. The See also:chief buildings were destroyed in 1901 in a See also:fire started by a See also:band of thieves.
