SIRMIO , a promontory at the See also:southern end of the Lacus Benacus (See also:Lake of See also:Garda), projecting 2i M. into the lake. It is celebrated from its connexion with See also:Catullus, for the large ruins of a See also:Roman See also:villa on the promontory have been supposed to be his See also:country See also:house. A See also:post-station bearing the name Sirmio stood on the high-road between Brixia and See also:Verona, near the southern See also:shore of the lake.
