SIXTUS , the name of five popes. Sixxus I. (See also:

Xystus) was the See also:sixth See also:bishop of See also:Rome (c. 116—125) and took the name on that See also:account. S1XTU8 II., successor of Stephanus I. as bishop of Rome in 2J7, suffered martyrdom under See also:Valerian on the 6th of See also:August 258. He restored the relations with the See also:African and Eastern Churches which had been broken off by his predecessor on the question of heretical See also:baptism. See also:Dionysius succeeded him.
