SVENDBORG , a seaport of See also:

Denmark, See also:capital of the aril (See also:county) of its name, on the See also:south See also:shore of the See also:island of Funen. Pop. (19o1), 11,543. The situation is pleasant. The narrow Svendborg Sund separates Fiinen from the lesser islands of Taasinge and Turd, of which the former rises to 245 ft. Inland from the See also:town there is also elevated ground, the Ovinehdi. The See also:harbour is accessible to vessels See also:drawing 20 ft. There are See also:tobacco and earthenware manufactories, See also:boat-See also:building yards, and distilleries. See also:Butter is the See also:principal export, and See also:petroleum, See also:coal and See also:iron the imports. Neighbouring to the town are the ruined See also:castle of Orkil, the watering-See also:place Christiansminde, and the extensive orchards of Gammel Hestehave, where See also:wine is produced.
