SVANETIA , a mountainous See also:

district on the See also:south slopes of the See also:Caucasus, immediately underneath the loftiest glaciated peaks of the See also:middle of the See also:system. It extends over the upper valleys of the Rion, Ingur and Tskhenis-tskhali, and is included in the See also:modern See also:government of See also:Kutais. The Svanetians belong to the Georgian See also:race.
