THRALL , a slave, a See also:

It only occurs in Old See also:English as a word borrowed from the Norse, the proper term in Old English being " theow " (peow); the Icel. See also:Israeli (See also:Dan. trael, Swed. trill) is probably represented by O. H. Ger. dregil, trigil, trikil, a slave, and would therefore be derived from the See also:root meaning " to run," seen in 0. Eng. praegian, Goth. thagjan, cf. Gr. r(AVM ; See also:Skeat (Etym. See also:Diet., 1898) compares the " trochilus " (Gr. apoxi)os), the small See also:bird that according to See also:Herodotus See also:waits or attends on the See also:crocodile and picks See also:insects out of his See also:teeth.
