term given in textile manufacture to the See also:short See also:fibres formed during the processes of scutching and hackling, and also to the yarns which are made from these fibres. A See also:special See also:machine termed a See also:carding See also:engine or a tow card is used to See also:form these fibres into a sliver, this sliver then passes to the See also:drawing frames, and thereafter follows the same See also:process as See also:line yarns in See also:flax See also:spinning.
