YEOTMAL , a See also:town and See also:district of See also:India, ire See also:Berar. The town stands at an See also:elevation of 1476 ft. Pop. (1901) 10,545. It was formerly the headquarters of Wun district, but in 1905 a new district of Yeotmal was established, covering the former Wun district, with additions from the district of See also:Basim. See also:Cotton-ginning and pressing are carried on. The town is also the See also:chief trading centre in the district, and is connected by road with Dhamangaon station, 29 M. distant. The DISTRICT OP YEOTMAL has an See also:area of 5183 sq. m. It is a See also:wild hilly See also:country, intersected by offshoots from the See also:Ajanta mountains. The hills are See also:bare, or clothed only with See also:dwarf See also:teak or small See also:jungle; but on the heights near Wun town the See also:bamboo grows abundantly, and small bamboos are found in the ravines. The See also:Wardha and Penganga, which See also:bound the district on the E. and S., unite at its S.E. corner. The Penganga drains the greater See also:part of the district. The See also:tiger, See also:leopard and See also:hyena abound; bears, wolves and jackals are also numerous; while small See also:game is plentiful. The See also:climate is enervating and unhealthy; the See also:annual rainfall averages about 41 in. Pop. (1901) 575,957. The See also:principal crops are millets, cotton, pulses, oil-seeds and See also:wheat. See also:Coal has been found, and See also:iron ore abounds.
