A VICTORIAN policeman was yesterday charged with serious sex offences involving a child.
The senior constable was charged on summons by officers from the Victoria Police ethical standards department and suspended without pay.
He has been charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child under 16, four counts of indecent acts with a child under 16 and one of possessing photographs of children under 16 engaged in sexual activity.
The 33-year-old senior constable was attached to one of the force's operational support units.
He has been summoned to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on May 27.
A police spokesman said the man's name would not be released because he had not yet appeared before a court.
WHAT A CESSPIT ...

"A Toledo Catholic priest charged in the 1980 ceremonial killing of a nun was placed on a leave of absence yesterday after Bishop Leonard Blair made a "pastoral visit" to the Rev. Gerald Robinson in the Lucas County jail. Bishop Blair's action bars the 66-year-old priest from public ministry - including celebrating Holy Communion or any other sacrament. Father Robinson remained in jail last night in lieu of $200,000 bond."
