AKCHA , a See also:

town and khanate of Afghan See also:Turkestan. The town lies 42 M. westward of See also:Balkh on the road to See also:Andkhui. It is protected by a mud See also:wall and a citadel. Estimated See also:population 8000, chiefly Uzbegs. The khanate is small, but well watered and populous. The See also:rivers rising in the See also:southern mountains, which no longer reach the See also:Oxus, terminate in vast swamps near Akcha, and into these the debris of such vegetation as yearly springs up on the slopes of the southern hills is washed down in See also:time of See also:flood.
