Italian portrait painter of the latter See also:half of the 16th See also:century, was See also:born at See also:Cremona about 1535, and died at See also:Palermo in 1626. In 156o, at the invitation of See also:Philip II., she visited the See also:court of See also:Madrid, where her portraits elicited See also:great See also:commendation. Vandyck is said to have declared that he had derived more knowledge of the true principles of his See also:art from her conversation than from any other source. She painted several See also:fine portraits of herself, one of which is at Althorp. A few specimens of her See also:painting are to be seen at See also:Florence and Madrid. She had three sisters, who were also celebrated artists.
