ANNUNCIATION , the announcement made by the See also:

The Feast of the Annunciation in the See also:Christian See also:Church is celebrated on the 25th of See also:March. The first See also:authentic allusions to it are in a See also:canon, of the See also:council of See also:Toledo (656), and another of the council of See also:Constantinople " in Trullo " (692), forbidding the celebration of all festivals in See also:Lent, excepting the See also:Lord's See also:day and the Feast of the Annunciation. An earlier origin has been claimed for it on the ground that it is mentioned in sermons of See also:Athanasius and of See also:Gregory Thaumaturgus, but both of these documents are now admitted to be See also:spurious. A See also:synod held at See also:Worcester, See also:England (1240), forbade all servile See also:work on this feast day. See further See also:LADY, DAY.
